DirecTV Triple LNB Antenna: Should you add an oval?

With more and more services being offered to satellite TV customers, you may be thinking about getting your trusty round satellite dish an oval companion. What does upgrading to a multi-satellite dish antenna do? Is it worth it?

For most DirecTV customers, adding the oval dish is a good bet if you want to add services and features to your satellite TV system. The original dish allows you to receive all the programming you’re currently receiving and the ability to add TiVO and a digital video recorder. You can also upgrade to high-speed internet access, although most satellite providers highly recommend you go with a multi-satellite dish antenna, especially if you plan to upload and download large files.

Adding the oval dish means you can have international programming in your home. DirecTV offers Spanish-language and programming in Cantonese and Mandarin from Eastern Asia that you could purchase. Depending on the receiver you have with your system, you may need a multi-satellite dish antenna to access your local television channels.

If you plan to upgrade to a high-definition TV soon, you’ll need a triple LNB antenna. You’ll also need a special HDTV receiver to pick up the enhanced satellite system.
