Satellite TV FAQs
Q. Can I get local channels with a satellite tv system?
A. You can subscribe to local channels when you order your programming from the DISH Network or DirecTV or you can use an over the air antenna and plug it into the back of your satellite receiver. You can even keep cable for just the local access, although local channel access is now available through satellite TV (contrary to what your local cable service operator/provider may be currently advertising).
Q. Can I get international programming with a satellite tv system?
A. Yes. All those channels are also listed in the channels and programming packages listed in the box your satellite system comes in.
Q. How is satellite TV different from cable?
A. Your cable company chooses which channels they get the best prices for then they limit your viewing options to those channels. With satellite TV, you get to choose and only pay for those channels you want to watch. Most people are surprised at how many great channels there are to watch that they never knew existed.
Q. Can I watch two different programs be on more than one TV in my house?
A. Buying separate Satellite Receivers for the various television sets in your home gives you the flexibility of watching different programs on different TVs. To do this, you'll need to have a dual-LNB Satellite System. The dual-LNB Satellite System (sometimes called a "deluxe system" or a "multi-room system") allows you to use additional receivers so the members of your household can watch different channels or pay per view programs in different rooms at the same time. If all of your Satellite Receivers are connected to the same land-based phone line, then Satellite TV provider can "mirror" your subscription package for a small addition monthly.
Q. I live in an apartment. Can I get a Satellite System?
A. Yes! Many apartment residents install the dish on a south-facing balcony. If your apartment management has concerns about this, visit FCC.gov/csb/facts/otard.html for information on a rule from the Federal Communications Commission about satellite dish installation on rental and other properties
